Grand slam winner, Serena Williams, on Monday, advanced to the second round of US Open after beating Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, 6-3, 6-3 on opening night.
According to AFP, Williams said the crowd helped her pull through adding that walking away from the sport after 27 years is such a hard decision for her.
“I feel so comfortable on this court and in front of everyone here,” Williams said after her victory
“The crowd was crazy, they helped me pull through. I was really pumped. I think when you are passionate about something it is always hard to walk away, I have been trying to decide what to do. I love this game.”
Williams, who won her first Grand Slam title in the same arena in 1999 said earlier this month that she plans on retiring after the tournament.
