Oba (Dr) Sulaimon Raji Adesina, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom and the Lagos state chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria on Tuesday distanced himself from a new ticketing imposed on the leadership of the Nagari Nokowa Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NNAMORAL) to motorcycle riders in the state.
Adesina, addressing hundreds of protesters agitating the new ticketing at the RTEAN state house at Akesan, Lagos, said he knew nothing about the levy and was shocked to hear about it.
“I am not aware of this ticket,” he said, calling for calm amid rows by the motorcyclists.
The RTEAN boss noted that there was no need for any more levy citing the current economic climate of the country. He added that imposing a levy will further add to the woes of the riders who are just struggling to make ends meet.
He assured the protesters that he was going to meet with the NNAMORAL leadership and resolve the issues raised accordingly.
“You all should go back to work and ensure no fighting. I will call the NNAMORAL leaders now and we will resolve it,” he said while addressing the agitators.
One of the aggrieved motorcyclists said the union just come up with levies when they feel needful.
“They (NNAMORAL leaders) will just give us tickets. Petrol is high, things are costly. They are not concerned,” he lamented.
The union had mandated a N100 levy in form of tickets to the motorcycle riders who are more than a thousand leaving them to struggle with the economic hardship in the country.
