In a move to curb unnecessary expenses, President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive limiting the number of vehicles in official convoys for ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to three. This cost-cutting measure, announced today, aims to streamline government expenditure and promote fiscal responsibility.
Key Highlights of the Directive:
- Vehicle Limitation: No additional vehicles will be assigned to officials for movement, capping the number at three per convoy.
- Entourage Reduction: President Tinubu had earlier reduced his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and to 25 for local trips.
- Vice President’s Entourage: The Vice President’s entourage has also been reduced to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.
- Security Personnel: Ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies are limited to five security personnel, comprising four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
- Compliance: All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, emphasizing the urgency and seriousness of these changes.
This directive is part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to reduce the cost of governance, which includes cutting the number of ministries and ministers, as well as reducing allowances for political office holders. By taking these bold steps, the President aims to promote transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility in government.
