PHOTO: LASUBEB COMMISSIONS EKOEXCEL’S SITUATION ROOM

Recall that the Lagos State Government in 2019 initiated the Eko Excellence in Child Education and Learning (EKOEXCEL). A model that leverages technology in the teaching and learning pedagogy in public primary schools.

To further enhance the efficiency of the programme, LASUBEB commissioned EKOEXCEL situation room. The event was held at the Board’s conference room, Maryland, Ikeja. The Situation Room is a data driven education control centre located at the heart of SUBEB to provide real-time monitoring and feedback on lesson delivery and completion, attendance, pupils learning outcomes, and other key indicators. It enables effective monitoring through the bank of computers and wide screens, using a computer program called “spotlight”.

Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo in her remarks applauded Mr. Governor on his unprecedented support and contributions to the education sector.

She disclosed that the central control room is in line with Mr. Governor’s education transformation agenda, adding that it would aid policy implementation and data driven decisions.

Adefisayo also stated that the ongoing activities in the learning environment can be tracked geographically and sighted remotely on the digital smart screen, noting that challenges in public primary schools can be easily identified and swiftly resolved through the dashboard.

In his address, the Executive Chairman LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye- King appreciated New Globe Education Services Ltd, the private partner on the project for their technical support and collaboration in achieving the workstation, stating that it is one of its kind in the country.

He disclosed that it can track teachers’ and pupils’ attendance with performance; display ongoing lessons in the classrooms and also depict activities in the learning environment. He noted, “this multi-faceted smart screen and workstation is focused on enabling data driven education system, ensuring transparency, accountability and quality service delivery in the basic education sector”.

At the handover/commissioning ceremony which had various stakeholders in the basic education sector in attendance, the Group Managing Director New Globe International, Dr Soji Akinyele presented both the Commissioner and SUBEB Chairman a certificate on global recognition of EKOEXCEL methodology by Harvard Economist, Professor Michael Kremer.
