Osun State Spends N527 Million on Refreshments, Outpacing Funds for Healthcare and Direct Tax Revenue
A recent review of Osun State’s budget performance has revealed that the state allocated N527 million to refreshment and meals between January and September, outstripping expenditures in critical areas like healthcare and exceeding earnings from direct assessment taxes.
Documents show that while N527 million was directed towards refreshments, the capital expenditure allocated to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo amounted to only N297 million. Meanwhile, the Osun State Hospitals Management Board received N45.6 million in capital funds during the same period.
This spending on refreshment and meals surpasses the N378 million the state earned from direct assessment tax, meaning Osun State spent its entire direct tax revenue—and more—on refreshments alone. Additionally, this amount represents 5% of the state’s total internally generated revenue (IGR) of N10.514 billion in the first three quarters of the year.
