RE: UPDATE ON EKSU FEES REGIME FOR FRESHERS
The National Association of Nigerian Students, ZONE-D acknowledge the press release of EKSU management of 26th November, 2024 signed by the Deputy Registrar/Head, Directorate of Intormation and Corporate Affairs, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun.
We note with thanks the concession of management for installment payment of Eksu school fees installmentally through 70:30 ratio for first and second semester respectfully.
However, we reject this window dressing approach as the Management has refused to shift ground and yield to our call for downward review of the announced school fees regime. We make bold to say that flexible payment does not in anyway equate reduction of the fees and does not in any way or means an answer to our prayer.
Also the suggestion that freshers should explore the NELFUND Student loan is misinformation as only matriculated students can access the NELFUND loan and as such that suggestion is worthless in this case. Suffice to say, NELFUND funding is not a grant but a loan that will be repaid by the students.
Also the claim of due consultation before reaching this new decision is false and misleading as there was no due consultation. Perhaps the only person or group consulted are the student Union leadership or the student Union president who is not in any capacity to make decision for freshers who are yet students of the university and as such does not fall under his purview. The President purported agreement with non reduction of fees is self serving, ridiculous and condemnable. It is against the interest of prospective students of the university and its hereby considered non and void by the Apex Students Body.
NANS Zone-D Under my leadership will go ahead with our option B if the management refuse to consider and announce downward review of the school fees as demanded. We will not and we can not allow the 50% increment and over 170k acceptance and undefined fees to stand. It is a threat to affordable education in the South West and as such will not stand.
Again, for the last time, we call for extensive consultation and immediate reduction in the announced school fees.
Viva Aluta
