The paramount ruler of Iba Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Sulaimon Adeshina Raji felicitates all lovers of tradition and culture in Iba and Lagos State on the occasion of the annual Isese festival, 2023. In his statement, he stated that man cannot alienate himself from his ancestral culture and heritage. In his words he said, ‘we must celebrate our rich cultural heritage as nobody will ever cherish what we have other than us, so we must cleanse our minds off all forms of notions that Yoruba traditions are evil or occult’. He added that all black descendants have to come to terms with the important place tradition plays in our lives history as a people.
Oniba asserts that African traditions and religious beliefs are expected to enjoy primacy and recognition like Christianity and Islam which are not indigenous. Therefore, the royal father commends the leadership of Lagos State Government led by His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwoolu for properly understanding the significance of celebrating and preserving our culture thereby declaring a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Isese day.
In his concluding message, the king appeals to Lagosians to seize this celebration to move closer to their roots, and embrace the richness in African culture and traditions. He equally added that efforts must be made to ensure that moderation and peaceful coexistence serve as everyone’s watchword during and after the festivities.
