Lekki local council development area celebrates world sight day for the year 2024, in conjuction with Nigerian optometric Association , themed : love your Eyes kids ( vision for children ) the event took place at the council secretariat hall on wednesday 9th october 2024.
The council boss Hon Engr Rasaki Bamidele kasali ably represented by the vice chairman Hon Mrs Oluremi Aloogba welcomed all and sundry that graced the Annual event. She thereby proceeded that the students should at all point in time dedicates their time to their studies in order to always excel in their various academic endeavors , she added that the students should not waist their pleasurable time listening to musics and sorts of various things that could hinder them facing their studies , she gave the notion that if the pupils can face their studies and excel in their various studies then success will surely comes their ways in years to come in their various endeavors.
The medical officer of health for the council Dr Mrs shekoni Adeshola stated that the world sight day was garthered to entailed special focus on the sight of the children , she stated that this year theme for the world sight day [ love your eyes kids ] added that it reminds for the importance of ensuring every child can see and learn without barriers .she did stated that ” As we celebrates the gift of sight , we acknowledged that millions of children worlwide suffers from vision impairment or blindness , this can hinder their education, social interactions and future opportunities, But there is hope with early detection and intervention , many vision problems can be corrected or managed.”

According to the medical officer of health, key statistics regards eye problems globally
•1 in 5 children worldwide suffers from vision impairment .
•80% of learning is visual .
•Early detection and treatment can prevent 75,% of childhood blindness , “lets work together to ensure every child can see his/ her potentials”
Dr Blessing David also gave an health talks, stated that the essence of garthering today is to ensures that all students sees clearly , she added that if the students haven’t been seeing clearly, they will see clearly . Thereafter talked on the following items.
Astigmatism: it do occures when the pupils cant see clearly especially when assignment is given to the student to do by their teachers , if that occurs they have to see doctors in due course .
Allergy: if the eyes always itches the students , that it isnt healthy for eye itches , that if eyes itches occurs they shouldn’t be using sharp objects to clean their eyes , added that if anything happens to the students in their eyes the student should report to their parents / teachers so that they can be properly taken care of, she there by advised that the students should ensures they eat good foods that contains vitamin A, vegetables, carrots , orange , sweet potatoes, mangoes, , palm oil, etc , to also eats foods that contains proteins , like eggs, beans , milk, cashew, yoghurt to help their sights in order to see clearly.
