A non-governmental organization, One Voice Development Initiative, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene decisively to secure the release of detained Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, enabling his return to service.
The appeal was made by the leader of the group, Abbas Abdullah Yakasai, during a press briefing in Kano yesterday.
Yakasai emphasized Kyari’s dedication to national service and the preservation of the country’s integrity, expressing serious concerns over his prolonged detention exceeding two years. According to Yakasai, Kyari’s continued incarceration raises alarms about the potential subversion of his constitutional rights and freedom.
“Kyari is recognized for his unwavering zeal, dedication, and commitment to excellence,” Yakasai stated. “His exemplary service and sacrifices in defense of our nation epitomize the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.”
Yakasai lamented the efforts to besmirch Kyari’s reputation, attributing it to both domestic and international enemies of Nigeria, including highly connected criminal and terrorist groups. He alleged that these groups have orchestrated numerous unfounded accusations and fabricated falsehoods against the decorated officer since 2021.
The One Voice Development Initiative’s plea underscores the mounting pressure for Kyari’s release and highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding his case.
