The embattled wife of a former Deputy Senate President, Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, who was arrested in the U.K in June over allegations of human trafficking and organ harvesting, has been granted bail by a London court.
The 55-year-old and her husband, Ike Ekweremadu, 60, are standing trial for allegedly plotting to traffic 21-year-old Ukpo Nwamini David into the country to harvest his kidney for their ailing daughter.
The couple was arrested on Thursday, June 23, and has been in detention ever since.
The Common Serjeant of London, Richard Marks, on Monday, July 25, freed Mrs Ekweremadu on stringent terms but denied Mr Ekweremadu bail, DailyMail reports.
Ruling on the case, Marks said, “The position is that I have granted bail to Beatrice subject to some fairly stringent conditions but I have refused bail to Ike.”
