NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS, SOUTHWEST, ZONE D.
EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY (EKSU) SCHOOL FEES HIKE – NANS SOUTHWEST (ZONE D) DIRECTS ALL FRESHERS NOT TO MAKE PAYMENTS YET, CALLS ON EKSU MANAGEMENT TO REVIEW FEES IMMEDIATELY OR RISK STUDENTS RAGE, PLEADS WITH GOVERNMENT TO INTERVENE NOW.
Arising from the recently announced school fees hike at the Ekiti State University, the leadership of NANS ZONE-D has been inundated with calls by students, citizens and parents calling for the intervention of the most ideological zone of NANS to be the voice of the voiceless students and parents at this trying time.
It is therefore imperative on us to release the following directives, especially since the hike in school fees is against the spirit and content of our recent consultative meeting with the management of the university.
- That all new intake both indigene and non-indigene should stop any payment forthwith until otherwise instructed.
- That students leaders across all tertiary institutions in the South West, especially Ekiti State should put their Aluta forces on standby for immediate mobilization to Ekiti State as this school fees regime if allowed to stay will set a bad precedence for State owned institutions in the South West.
OUR DEMAND:
- We demand immediate recall of the memo released effecting the hike in school fees and immediate reversal of the hike
- We call on the management to revert to our position during our last consultative meeting or risk the invasion of the institution by Aluta forces across the South West.
- We want to reiterate that state must resist the urge to completely commercialize education and remove the hitherto existing institutionalized subsidy on Education.
- That if the new fees as announced is allowed to stay, that only less than 1% citizens of Ekiti will be able to send their wards to the University, especially to study professional courses like Medicine, Law and Engineering.
- We demand that the Ekiti State Government intervene now before it is too late.
- That government must be human enough to understand the present economic situation of the country and the hardship currently faced by citizens at all front and refuse the urge to compound this hardship for Ekiti citizens by directing the University Management to do the needful and reduce this fees substantially.
This press release shall be the most considerate and understanding of our future actions on this subject matter, as our next line of action shall be definitive and strategic towards ensuring our calls are acceded to.
We shall wait patiently for 5 working days for a new announcement on the subject matter after which failure to review the hike will immediately trigger our next line of actions.
NANS ZONE-D under my leadership will continue to stand with the students, parents and masses at this trying time.
Dare to struggle, Dare to Win.
