The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against financial crimes with the arrest of two suspected money racketeers in Abuja.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, operatives of the Abuja Zonal Command of the EFCC apprehended Adigun Johnson, a Public Administration graduate holding an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), and James Friday, an artisan, at a nightclub in the bustling Wuse Area of the capital city.
The arrest of the duo came following diligent surveillance and intelligence operations conducted by EFCC agents focused on curbing currency abuse and mutilation.
Upon their apprehension, the suspects were found in possession of a substantial sum of N3,480,000.00 (Three Million Four Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira) along with three Point of Sale (POS) machines, allegedly used in facilitating their illicit activities.
“These arrests mark a significant step in our ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes and uphold the integrity of the nation’s currency,” stated an EFCC spokesperson.
Both suspects are set to face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
The EFCC continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious financial activities, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s financial system from abuse and exploitation.
