NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS), SOUTHWEST (ZONE D)
We, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest (Zone D) condemn in strong terms the defamatory news published by Sahara Reporter on 18th October 2024, regarding the newly elected Coordinator, Comrade Taiwo Owolewa.
The report falsely claimed that students in Comrade Taiwo’s convoy fired gunshots to celebrate his victory. This allegation is entirely untrue and malicious. The video accompanying the report clearly shows the sound of knockout bangers, commonly used to celebrate victories, not gunshots.
We demand an immediate retraction of this defamatory news and a formal apology to Comrade Taiwo and the entire NANS Zone D family. This baseless report has caused harm to Comrade Taiwo’s reputation and undermined the integrity of our organization.
Facts:
1. No guns were fired during the celebration.
2. No student in the convoy possessed or used firearms.
Consequences:
1. Damage to Comrade Taiwo’s reputation and character.
2. Unwarranted fear and anxiety among students and the public.
3. Undermining of NANS’ efforts to promote peace and student interests.
Demand:
We urge Sahara Reporter to:
1. Retract the defamatory news from all platforms.
2. Issue a formal apology to Comrade Taiwo and NANS Zone D.
3. Take corrective measures to ensure factual reporting.
Notice:
Failure to comply with our demands within 48 hours will lead to further action, including seeking legal redress and reporting to relevant media regulatory bodies.
Signed:
